Nollywood Actress Cynthia Anijekwu gets N13m in donations amid cancer battle

Cynthia Nkachukwu Anijekwu, an emerging Nigerian actress, says she has received more than N13 million in donations just days after making a public appeal for financial assistance to cover her cancer treatment.

Cynthia Anijekwu stated in an Instagram video released on Monday by her coworker Destiny Etiko that she was diagnosed with cancer in 2023 and underwent surgery, but the disease reappeared and has since spread to her bones and breast.

She revealed that her monthly treatment expenditures now surpass N600,000 and asked Nigerians to help her raise N20 million for radiation, surgery, and other medical bills.

“I was diagnosed with cancer in 2023 and began therapy. I had surgery, but the cancer returned, and I have been in and out of the hospital ever since,” she said.

“The recent check-up showed that it has spread to my bones, and the cost of treatment is now much higher. I currently spend over N600,000 every month. The doctor said I will have to undergo radiation and another surgery, and it isn’t something I can afford.

“It’s also affected my breast, and the pain is excruciating.” Please help me to live and survive. I am asking Nigerians for help. “I need N20 million for surgery and treatment.”

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Etiko shared a snapshot of her conversation with Anijekwu, who reported that N13.1 million had been contributed to her treatment following a public appeal.

Anijekwu thanked the actress for boosting her request for assistance, stating that the enormous response had left her “speechless”.

“I’m still in shock, and I’ll keep saying I never knew a love like this still exists, especially because I never imagined it would come in the person of you, my human angel,” the conversation goes.

“As of this morning, I see the sum of ₦13.1 million.” From where to where, kwanu? Just a few days ago, I was appealing to God and asking for aid everywhere to raise the next money for my treatment.

“God knows I’m a private guy, but this condition is forcing me to unlearn a lot. I’d want to say that God, in all His magnificence, will continue to elevate your steps.

“May your enemies fall into the trap they believe they have laid for you. May men and women respect you tremendously. May your charity never be turned against you, and may the Almighty guide your path to greatness. Thank you, Ma. I’m quite appreciative.

In an accompanying comment, Etiko described the response to Anijekwu’s request as “overwhelming” and thanked everyone who contributed, adding the money will go a long way toward helping the actress with her therapy.

“You all gave N13.1 million out of the N20 million she required. It’s a lot, and she’s filled with excitement. “She is extremely grateful and still in shock,” she wrote.

“God bless everyone. At the very least, this will benefit her greatly. To be honest, I didn’t expect the outpouring of affection you all showed her. All I can say is thank you, Jesus, and all of my followers.”
