
Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has revealed that genotype compatibility was one of the first things he and his wife, Simi, considered before getting married.
Speaking during a recent interview, the singer explained that despite being in love, he would not have proceeded with the marriage if their genotypes posed a risk to their future children.
According to him, couples should prioritise genotype compatibility instead of allowing emotions to influence such an important decision.
“I wouldn’t have married my wife Simi if she were SS or AS. When we met, the first thing we did was to know our genotype, if we match. Forget love. It makes no sense,” he said.
Adekunle Gold stressed that couples should consider the possible health implications for their children before deciding to get married.
He questioned the point of bringing children into the world when there is a significant risk of inherited blood disorders, urging people not to ignore genotype compatibility because of romantic feelings.
“That’s why some of us are here. Because you’re about to bring a child into the world and then they’re about to be sickly. What is the point? She’s AA while I’m SC, so we’re good,” he added.
His comments have highlighted the importance of genotype testing among couples, particularly before marriage and having children.
Adekunle Gold’s revelation has also drawn attention to the need for couples to have important conversations about health and future children before committing to marriage.
