23-year-old divorcee returns her bride price via bank transfer after ex-husband refused to accept it from her kinsmen

A young woman who married as a teenager has revealed that she did a bank transfer of her bride price back to her husband after he refused to collect it from her kinsmen. 

Ugwu Tessy got married in 2020 and says she is now 23 years old. This means she was about 17 when she got married. 
 

She had three children in the marriage and it ended. 
 

However, she says her estranged husband refused to accept the bride price back. This meant that she could not move on since they are still connected traditionally until the bride price is returned. 
 

Tessy, who is now in a new relationship, took to Facebook on September 9 to share screenshot of a bank transfer and explained that she has now sent the sum paid as her bride price back to his ex. 
 

She wrote in the bank transfer narration: “I Ugwu Nnenna Theresa Ex-wife of Ejike Tobias Ugwuoke. Have Single-handedly returned the Bride Price he paid on my Head on 2/1/2020 which he Rejected to Collect From My Umunna & Parents & The laws. I Single-HANDEDLY Returned it Myself Today Being 9/9/2026.” 
 

Her post sparked reactions, with some other social media users stating that their families returned theirs the same way when their husbands refused to collect it.
