Colombian Footballer Is Sent Off For Headbutting His Own Team-Mate Over A Disagreement On Who Would Take A Free-Kick (Video)
A Colombian footballer was sent off for headbutting his own team-mate on Sunday over a disagreement who would take a free-kick
Atletico Nacional duo Dayro Moreno and Jeison Lucumi sparked the outrageous scenes as they were looking for a late winner from the set-piece against Deportivo Cali at the Estadio Atanasio Girardot in Medellin.
With just a few minutes left to end the match, Lucumi and Moreno started arguing over who should take the set-piece as the referee was speaking to the Cali defenders over where the wall should be.
As the argument got heated, the pair began fighting for the ball which after Lucumi then pushed into a Cali defender before the two squared up to each other. At one point, Lucumi headbutted his own team-mate before others players intervened by breaking up the bizarre fight.
Without wasting much time, referee Carlos Mario Herrera showed Lucumi a red card for the attack.
The club released a statement afterward where they apologised to the fans for the incident.
Atletico Nacional said: ‘These unprecedented violent acts contradict the ethical values which the institution adheres to.
‘To our fans in general and the 19,000 supporters who accompanied us in the Atanasio stadium we apologise for the incident which detracts from the reasons for being a football fan.’
