Osita Chidoka, a special adviser to Uche Secondus, national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says there was no Nollywood when the party took over power in 1999.
Speaking on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels TV, the former minister of aviation attributed the success of Nigeria’s movie industry to PDP’s reign.
“In the last three years, the APC has maintained a narrative of nothing was done in the last 16 years of the PDP, 16 years of waste,” he said.
“In 16 years, the PDP inherited an economy with foreign reserves of $3.8 billion and handed over $3o billion when it handed over to the APC in 2015.
“The economy was growing at 2%, we left it growing at 6-7%, the economy had 70% poverty rate, we left it at less than 20% poverty rate, the economy had no savings, we left it with an excess crude account.
“There was no telecom industry before PDP took over and it is thriving today, 18 million lines are available. There was no Nollywood industry when PDP took over Nigeria, see where Nollywood has gone to today.
“If all the growth we have seen in Nigeria are matters of fact.”
Chidoka said the PDP lost to Muhammadu Buhari’s All Progressives Congress (APC) because of voters fatigue.
“The voters have a right to be tired of a party, of a brand.”
