Barcelona director of football Eric Abidal has revealed Lionel Messi might not be much of talker but knows how to let teammates know he is angry.
Abidal has also hailed Messi as a “key player for us and for the dressing room”.
Lionel Messi is widely known as one of the best players in the world and his performances for Barcelona have helped him build that reputation.
The 31-year-old has been with the Catalan club for over a decade and was handed the captain’s armband after Andres Iniesta’s exit.
Messi is vocal about the chances of winning La Liga, Champions League and Copa Del Rey treble this season.
And Abidal has now revealed how Messi let’s his teammates know he is angry.
“He’s an example as a captain,” Abidal told Barcelona’s official website.
“Not just talent-wise, also as a person.
“He doesn’t talk much, but he shows us everything on the field. He’s a key player for us and for the dressing room.
“We always say that Leo doesn’t need to talk. Everyone knows when he’s angry and everyone knows when he’s happy.
“His role in the team is important for the young players and the new signings.
“Leo’s story is a beautiful one, but he’s shown that here at Barça, with hard work, lots of things are possible.
“He’s a great player and thanks to him the level of the other players increases.”
However, Barcelona have not secured a domestic victory since last months 2-1 win over Real Sociedad.
And currently sit 2nd in La Liga ahead of this weekend fixtures.
Barcelona are on 15 points with Atletico Madrid, while Real Madrid are on 14 points.
