Joint Committee of the National Assembly on Aviation has frown at the delay currently experienced in the construction work at the terminal building of Malam Aminu Kano International Airport.
Senator Adamu Aliero, the committee chairman made this known on Friday when his members paid a courtesy visit on Governor Abdullahi Ganduje at the Government House, Kano.
Aliero said that the committee was “greatly disappointed” that not much had been done in the execution of the project and gave the contractor two weeks for completion.
He said: “We have gone round and we are not happy with the progress of work because the contract was awarded together with order four airports, Port Harcourt was commissioned and the rest have progressed very far.
“We are dissatisfied with progress of work because only skeletal work is going and we urged the Managing Director of FAAN and the contractor to ensure that the work is completed in the next two weeks.”
Also speaking, the chairman House Committee on Aviation, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, urged the contractor to finish the work within the stipulated time.
Onyejeocha also asked the contractor to remove all obsolete machines from the airport before December.
The chairman, however, thanked the governor for his collaborative efforts in reviving the airport.
She commended the governor for building magnificent gate with security gadgets, CCTV and also providing scanners for the airport.
Earlier, Governor Ganduje described Kano as the commercial nerve center of Nigeria and some West African countries.
Ganduje said: “We want Kano to be compared with any other city in the world that is why we are improving the aviation industry.”
He also urged the contractor the complete the project before the weather gets terrible.
