‘We can’t lose to Enyimba’- Rivers United coach Stanley Eguma stokes up the fire ahead of must win title cracker this week

Surprise Nigerian Premier League title chasers Rivers United’s coach Stanley Eguma has heated the polity ahead of Wednesday’s title cracker against Enyimba FC of Aba. Rivers United are second on the NPFL standings following a 1-0 in over Lobi Stars in their last NPFL game on Sunday, while Enyimba won the premier league title last season.
At the end of last season, Rivers State government merged Sharks and Dolphins of Port-Harcourt to become Rivers United with Eguma in charge of the team.
The club presently second on the log and this has given the coach confidence to believe this is Rivers United year to emerge champions of Nigeria again.
“The game is a big one as Enyimba is a direct rival this season.’ Eguma told Rivers United Media. Playing in Umuahia can be likened to playing at a neutral venue (Enyimba traditionally play their home games in Aba).
“My only problem with playing in Umuahia is the pitch (at the Umuahia Township Stadium). There is nothing anyone can do now though so the only option open to us is to work hard and see that we come back to Port Harcourt with some points,”Rivers United won Enyimba 1-0 in the first fixture between both sides this season in Port Harcourt on February 21.
“From all indications, this is our year and we are working assiduously towards winning the title. We have witnessed some changes in the organisation of the club and I can say we are better organised now.
“The present government is doing its best to give us the support that we need and we on our part are also doing our best to reciprocate the gesture.’ Eguma concluded.
