A 26-year-old man identified as Aminu Inuwa of Unguwar Jakada in Kano, has been apprehended after he killed his 18-year-old wife for ‘being disobedient’ one month after their wedding. The suspect who buried his wife Safara’u in the matrimonial home, was nabbed after he approached a neighbour with series of questions on how to bury a corpse and the Islamic injunction on whoever kills a human being.
Community leaders in the area who stormed the man’s house after the incident was reported, found blood-stained shovel and digger beside what appeared to be a grave. However speaking to journalists, the man admitted killing his wife barely a month after their wedding for being disobedient. He further claimed it was accidental and not intentional.
“The reason is she was not obeying my directive. I really loved my wife as she equally loved me to the extent that I don’t want to live without her. The incident was accidental, not intentional,” he said.
Abdullahi Haruna, the Kano State Police Command spokesperson who confirmed the suspect is in custody, said; “A 26-year-old man of Unguwar Jakada in Kano metropolis was reported to have slaughtered his 18-year-old wife, Safara’u Aminu, and dug a grave in the house and buried her. The police have excavated the grave and took the corpse to the mortuary at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.“The suspect is now under police custody. An investigation has since commenced. When completed, he would be prosecuted before a court of competent jurisdiction.”
