Youths in Cross River state foiled a kidnap attempt of one Mathias Odo who was abducted by unknown gunmen earlier today in Echumofana Ward, Yala local government area.

It was gathered that the kidnappers were chased from Okuku area, when the news of the kidnap got around. Many youths, okada riders, some local vigilantes and several people of goodwill joined in the chase.

The kidnappers finally abandoned their car at Vandikya, by the K/Ala Federal Highway. The pressure from various groups rescued Mathias Odo and restored his freedom and safety.

The Nigeria Police has commenced investigations as the recovered car has been towed to Okuku Police station.

Sadly, a man was killed by the kidnappers. He was shot from behind after overtaking the gunmen with his bike.
