Obiano lays foundation stone of Dioceasan Hospital School of Health Technology

The Diocese of Nnewi Anglican Communion has kicked off the building of a three-storey Hostel building and another three-storey classroom building for its Diocesan Hospital School of Health Technology located at Otolo Nnewi, Anambra State.
The two projects are being set up as part of the 85 years Anniversary of the Nnewi Diocesan Hospital Sapphire coming up this year, and to further enhance the Anambra state government thrust on better health care delivery.

Performing the Turning /Foundation stone –laying of Nnewi Diocesan Hospital School of Health Technology, Governor Willie Obiano said his administration gave N580 million naira to mission hospitals in the state last year, and of all the 57 General hospitals in the state, none was equipped to offer services delivered in General Hospitals elsewhere in the country.
“My administration is building 63 Primary Health Care Centers and each of the three Senatorial districts in the state will get 21 of the health centers and they will all have accommodations for Doctors and Nurses to ensure that medical services are delivered in them twenty four hours of the day.
“We have also spent over N200 million for those who cannot pay their hospital bills, and for that we are starting a Health Insurance Scheme in the state, this is to forestall the idea of keeping discharged patients in the hospital for not being able to pay their bills.”
He urged the Diocese to start the process of accreditation for all the courses that will be offered by the School of Health Technology, on time, so that his administration will help pursue it, noting that it is under his administration that the state University Teaching Hospital secured all the necessary accreditation it needs.
He donated the sum of N10 million naira for the project and other projects going on in the hospital, just as he gave them six receptacles for disposal of waste in the hospital and promised to assist the hospital in other areas of need.
Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Godwin Okpala in his speech described the Chief Obiano as a Governor with human face, adding that he is the first sitting Governor that has visited the hospital since its inception.
He said praised the Governor for providing security for the people of the state, the exploits in agriculture, attraction of investors and promotion of education, and health care in the state, and appealed to the Governor to consider the Diocese for monetary assistance like done to others.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Hospital Administrator, Rev, Dr Maurice Agu informed the Governor that successive administrations in the state has marginalized the hospital, adding that grants to other hospitals for infrastructural development was denied the hospital.
He said the hospital is determined to continue as a beacon of light to the people of the state and has embarked of other meaningful projects to reposition it for better service delivery to patients, adding that a multi million naira state of the arts, ultra modern medical complex is presently being developed and will house all departments, including isolation wards and quarantine section.
