Manchester City defended the Community Shield title against Liverpool with a 6-5 win after the game ended in 1-1 after 90 minutes and went on to convert all their spot-kicks to reclaim the title the won last season against Chelsea.

Manchester City had a chance to score an early goal after an opportunity was presented to Leroy Sane but the German attacker lacked the composure to slot the ball into the net.it was Raheem Sterling that scored the opener in the 12th minute following a nice flick from David Silva.Sane was withdrawn after sustaining an injury from Trent Alexander-Arnold harsh challenge, Gabriel Jesus was thrown in to replace the German star.Mohamed Salah had a great chance to restore parity after he created some chances for himself but he blazed the ball over the crossbar.

Liverpool kept on attacking to find the equaliser but Manchester City maintained their cool as they stick to their game plan.Guardiola was shown a yellow card for protesting against a stud showing tackle on David Silva.The first 45 minutes ended 1-0 in favour of Manchester City.Liverpool came out in the second half forcing Manchester City to sit back with quick play and fast transition from wing to wing.

Manchester City gradually builds into the game having absorbed the early pressure from Liverpool at the start of the second half.Liverpool was denied by the woodwork from a jab from Virgil van Dirk and Salah was also denied by the pole after cutting in to create a chance for himself in the box.Guardiola made his second substitution as Ilkay Gundogan was thrown in for Silva in the 59th minute of the clash in a bid add fresh legs to the midfield.Manchester City had a breakaway that was led by Sterling, the English attacker failed to execute the counter attack proper as Allison Becker was on point to close him down.Jurgen Klopp made a double substitution in the 67th minute of the clash as Joel Matip and Narby Keita were thrown in to replace Alexander Trent-Arnold and Fabinho respectively.

Liverpool got the reward for their fine display in the second half via Matip in the 79th minute after Manchester City defence line failed to deal with Jordan Henderson’s free-kick into the box.Klopp brought in Shaqiri, Adam Lallana and Oxlade-Chamberlain for Firmino, Henderson and Origi respectively with just 11 minutes to go. Salah was denied a last-minute winner by Kyle Walker, the former Tottenham defender cleared the goal-bound ball off the line to keep the scoreline 1-1 after 90th minute of play.The game was determined by a penalty shoot out as Manchester City reclaimed the title after converting all their spot-kicks with Liverpool losing one of their penalty
