Real Madrid toppled Barcelona for the first time in two years and two months following their victory 3-1 over Celta Vigo at Balaidos on Saturday.

The result was a big boost for the Real Madrid considering the fact that Barcelona suffered a defeat against in their La Liga opener against Athletic Bilbao, the victory put Los Blancos above the La Liga champions for the first time in 818 days.The last time Los Blancos went ahead the Champions was at the end the 2016/17 season in which they finished first.Real Madrid only matched Barcelona on points during a LaLiga Santander season but have never edged in front.

Barcelona finished 19 points ahead of Real Madrid last season, the biggest gap between the sides in history.The victory against Celta was also important as it is the first time since the LaLiga Santander 2007/08 season that the team have been above Barcelona after the first matchday. That year, Los Blancos went on to win the title.Real Madrid will host Real Valladolid while Barcelona will play Real Betis to the Camp Nou.
