With a hectic Tuesday night in the second round of this year’s EFL Cup, we here at Soccer News have found a handful of helpful tips that can boost your midweek acca:
BST 19:45 Preston vs Hull City
Starting with Tuesday’s hosts, putting in another eye-catching display in their 2-1 win over play-off hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday over the weekend, Preston are arguably the Championships surprise package this season. Winning four of their last five contests across all competitions, including back-to-back victories, it will undoubtedly be their form in the final third most impressing Head Coach Alex Neil. Scoring two or more goals in each of their previous four victories, one man to watch on Tuesday will be leading goalscorer, Daniel Johnson. Bagging a brace against Wednesday on Saturday, the midfielder already has four Championship goals to his name. While Preston might be enjoying a bright start to the year, the same cannot be said for a Hull side still struggling to adjust to life under new boss Grant McCann. Blown away by a 3-1 loss against Bristol City at the KCOM over the weekend, the Tigers have suffered back-to-back defeats and it is also worth noting that Hull have recorded just one away victory against Championship opposition in 2019.
Tip: Preston win @ 19/20
19:45 Leeds United vs Stoke City
Picking up an empathic 3-0 win away at Stoke on Saturday and reclaiming their spot at the top of the Championship, Leeds are seen to be an overwhelming favorite to secure a Premier League return this season. With the mood in Marcelo Bielsa’s camp at a continued high, the Whites are enjoying a four-match winning run and are yet to taste defeat in any competition so far this year. Along with continuing to shine in the final third, the former Napoli boss will be most impressed by his sides defensive resolve. Along with keeping another clean sheet at the Bet365 Stadium over the weekend, Tuesday’s hosts have recorded four consecutive clean sheets and have not picked the ball out of their net in almost 400 minutes of action. While Leeds might find themselves in a battle at the top of the Championship, Stoke find themselves in the midst of a struggle at the other end. One of just two sides still in search of their first three points of the season, Nathan Jones’ side have slipped to the foot of the table and have now failed to win any of their last three appearances, shipping eight goals on that winless run.
Tip: Leeds win to nil @ 8/5
19:45 Nottingham Forest vs Derby County
Starting with Tuesday’s hosts, while Nottingham Forest may have suffered a 2-1 loss against West Brom in their Championship opener last month, the Reds have really started to show some improvements under new boss Sabri Lamouchi. Coming off the back of a 2-1 win at home to promotion contenders Fulham last weekend, they now have their sights firmly set on mounting a play-off charge this season. Also securing back-to-back victories at the City Ground, one man to watch in midweek will be the red-hot Lewis Grabban. Bagging a brace against Fulham on Saturday and now bagging four in his last four, the 31-year-old should be confident of exploiting Derby’s defensive issues. Battling back to snatch a point off of West Brom over the weekend, last year’s play-off finalists are showing some signs of a struggle under new boss Phillip Cocu. Failing to record a clean sheet in any of their last three matches, we’re backing an in-form Grabban to extend his goalscoring run on Tuesday.
Tip: Lewis Grabban to score anytime @ 13/8
