Norwich won promotion to the Premier League from the Championship last season by playing some lovely attractive football under German boss Daniel Farke. The Canaries boss has earned an inevitable comparison with compatriot Jurgen Klopp.

The team from Norfolk have not changed their style of play in the top-flight. Their adventurous style has earned plaudits, but so far has seen them pick up just one win out of four games.

Brilliant in the Championship

Daniel Farke comes across as a boss who will never change his football ideals. Like Liverpool boss Klopp, he seems to stick with what he believes in when it comes to the way his team plays the game.

In the Championship that worked fine because of the poorer standard of a lot of the opposition teams. They scored goals for fun and deserved promotion for their endeavours. Finnish striker Teemu Pukki was prolific playing their style of play. The former-Celtic star has also started this season in good form, scoring five times in City’s first four league outings.

A tough start to life back in the top-flight

The Canaries and their brave style of play have already suffered a serious examination in the Premier League. In fairness, Farke’s team have faced Liverpool and Chelsea in their opening four games of the season, while also facing West Ham and Newcastle.

Their first four league games have yielded just three points. The Canaries also have the worst defensive record in the Premier League, having conceded ten goals already. Only the fact that Watford has failed to win this season is keeping the new boys off the bottom of the top-flight table.

On the flip-side, the Canaries are the joint-highest scorers in the bottom half of the fledgeling table alongside Chelsea. Whether the attacking talents of the likes of Pukki and up-and-coming young midfielder Todd Cantwell will be enough to keep Farke’s side out of the relegation zone seems doubtful.

Maybe Farke has to slightly adjust his team’s style of play. The team from Norfolk do not want to lose their attacking edge, but they need to find some sort of solidity in defence. This is a happy balance that some teams struggle to find. If teams fail to do so, their boss usually takes the blame and loses his job.

At the minute, there is no question about Farke losing his job. He seems to have a good relationship with the club’s hierarchy. When teams are struggling near the bottom of the table good relationships tend to go out the win, with the threat of relegation all-consuming.

There is nothing to say that Norwich will dispatch with the services of the German, as he has done a fantastic job. However, you just never know in football. One thing is for sure, the Canaries need to start winning matches and quickly.

One of the favourites for the drop

Not much has changed in the bookmaker’s eyes when it comes to relegation and Norwich. The Canaries kicked off the campaign as one of the favourites to suffer the drop and they still are. The team from Norfolk are now odds of 11/8 for a quick return to the Championship.

A lot of the time teams coming up from the Championship tend to have trouble scoring goals. However, this Canaries team look well capable of scoring goals this season. They have already scored against the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea.

The Canaries will beat the weaker teams in the top-flight. Only time will tell, though if it will be enough for Daniel Farke’s team to survive the drop this season.
