Nigeria U-23 forward Orji Okwonkwo has been named Montreal Impact Most Valuable Player in 2019 season after receiving the Giuseppe-Saputo Trophy, according to the club official website.
The 21-year-old Bologna star who currently on loan to Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit until 31 December 2019 but the Benin-born ace finished the year with eight goals from 28 appearances and the highest total for a player in his first year with the club since Didier Drogba scored 11 in 2015.
Okwonkwo came tied for second on the team for goals and shots (55) and tied for 10th in MLS with two multi-goal games, recording a brace in wins versus Portland Timbers and Philadelphia including the winning goal on a volley for which he was awarded the MLS Goal of the Week for week 17.French full-back Bacary Sagna was named Defensive Player of the Year for his performance after helping the club win the 2019 Canadian Championship with 35 appearances two goals and three assist. Okwonkwo was part of the Golden Eaglet that won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2015, Chile.
