Raheem Sterling has been axed from England squad for Euro 2020 qualifier with Montenegro after training bust-up with Joe Gomez at Saint George’s Park.
The 24-year-old Manchester City forward initially clashed with Liverpool defender during Cityzen 3-1 loss to Reds in the Premier League encounter at Anfield on Sunday, although they embraced after the full-time whistle. An FA statement read: “The FA can confirm Raheem Sterling will not be considered for Thursday’s EURO 2020 qualifier against Montenegro as a result of a disturbance in a private team area at St. George’s Park today. He will remain with the squad.’
Sterling will not be considered for selection in what will be the Three Lions’ 1000th match as Manchester City forward have apologized to Gomez and the squad after the altercation and Liverpool center-back the squad accepted his apology. England take on Montenegro on Thursday night before traveling to play Kosovo on Sunday as they look to wrap up top spot in Group A of Euro 2020 qualifying.
