See what Premier League coaches said about Unai Emery sacking by Arsenal after 18 months in charge at the Emirate Stadium.
The 48-year-old Spanish coach was appointed as Gunners’ boss in May 2018 to succeeding Arsene Wenger after 22 years with the North London outfit. However, Arsenal decided to part way with Emery following club’s worst run of form since 1992 with the Gunners winless in seven games and eight points off the top four in the Premier League after 2-1 loss at home to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on Thursday night with Freddie Ljungberg has been placed in temporary charge as the club search for a replacement. But Premier League managers reacted to the sacking of their fellow coach on Friday.
Jose Mourinho said: “It’s always sad news. I felt it as a kid when my dad was sacked as a manager, I have felt it myself.” He said on Sky Sports.”There is not one single manager sacking that I am happy with.”I am sad about it but that’s life. Unai is a fantastic coach, not happy at Arsenal obviously.
Brendan Rodgers responds to the sacking: “With a little bit of a rest, another big club will come for him and his career will be back on track so: ‘No dramas mi amigo, keep going and you will get another club’.”
“Arsenal is a fantastic club. One of the greats in this country. If the people at Arsenal have moved Unai on, I’m sure they have an idea of who they want to bring in. ‘There’s disappointment whenever a coach loses his job. Unai has proved himself over a number of years. I have sympathy for him.’
Pep Guardiola insisted ahead of City’s game against Newcastle United: “I am sorry for [Emery]. Every time a manager is sacked it is not good news. “It does not change my opinion of him. He is an incredible professional. I am sure he will find another job soon.’
Jurgen Klopp reacts to Arsenal’s decision to sack Unai Emery and appoint Freddie Ljungberg: “I was surprised, I got up this morning and saw the news. “What can I say? That’s how the football world is, I have no inside info, have no clue what exactly happened there.”Obviously the board decided they were not happy with the results, the performances. ‘In the end they have to make decisions, it’s our life. That’s what happens the moment you sign a contract. ‘We have to make the best of the situation at a club, when people think it’s not the best that’s a possible solution.”Obviously it happened to Unai. I wish him all the best, he’s an outstanding manager, he showed that in so many different countries and different leagues. ‘He will be fine in the future, I’m sure he had big ambitions for Arsenal and it didn’t work out. Now Arsenal have to find a solution. “Freddie has taken the job now interim wise, that’s how it is, there are coaches out there, younger, maybe less experienced but that doesn’t mean a lot. Maybe he can take that chance.’
Frank Lampard on Emery’s departure from Arsenal today, he says: “I wouldn’t say it was inevitable. Nothing is inevitable either way in football. It is not nice, everyone has a work ethic and an idea and it goes one way or the other.’
