It was learnt that Karigidi was killed in the early hours of Monday by the unknown gunmen who invaded his home in Ode Irele at about 3am.

Gunmen have shot dead a retired principal and the Lay President of Methodist Church of Nigeria, Mr Christopher Karigidi, in Igbobini Diocese, Irele Local Government of Ondo State.

It was learnt that Karigidi was killed in the early hours of Monday by the unknown gunmen who invaded his home in Ode Irele at about 3 am.

It was not clear if the gunmen who killed Karigidi were assassins or armed robbers, as some witnesses claimed they left without taking anything from his home.

Spokesman of the State Police Command, Mr Femi Joseph, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in the state, said that investigation was ongoing into the killing.

“A retired principal and Lay President of Methodist Church of Nigeria, Mr Christopher Karigidi, in Igbobini Diocese, Irele Local Government of Ondo State was shot dead in his home by unknown gunmen.

“We have begun an investigation into the matter and we will soon arrest those behind the ungodly acts

“The remains of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue,” Joseph said.
