A former Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL), Mr Olumide Akpata, on Friday called for review of the country’s legal education system to keep it in tune with modern realities.
Akpata spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the need to produce lawyers fit for today’s legal services market.
He said there was the need for legal education to meet the demands of today’s society, adding that structured reform would be needed to achieve the aim.
He said: “We must reform our system of legal education to be in tune with modern realities.
“This reform must be anchored on academic policies that incorporate the dynamism of law, industry and practice.
“It must be flexible enough to adapt to current and future changes in the legal services market.”
Akpata said that NBA could lead the structured reform by cooperating with relevant stakeholders to achieve positive results.
“Through the NBA, there could be the championing of a structured reformation and collaboration with all stakeholders in achieving this objective,” he said.
