Manchester United are making the most of the unforeseen break in the football season by drawing up a plan to sign Thomas Lemar during the summer transfer window.
The French midfielder’s representatives met with United last week, according to ESPN, and negotiations could develop further while the 2019-20 campaign is put on hold due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
The midfielder caught the attention of Liverpool and Arsenal during his outstanding 2016-17 season, producing 14 goals and 18 assists as Monaco lifted the Ligue 1 title and reached the Champions League semi-finals.
The left winger eventually chose to join Atletico Madrid in 2018 in a deal worth 70 million euros.
The 24-year-old has provided three goals and six assists since his move to the Spanish capital and has registered just 24 La Liga appearances this term.
The report claims Lemar feels he is not suited to Diego Simeone’s pragmatic style of play and will look to make a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano in the coming months.
The World Cup winner has over three years left on his current contract. However, it is believed Rojiblancos chairman Enrique Cerezo Torres is prepared to listen to offers.
Meanwhile, Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has also met with Jude Bellingham in recent days in an attempt to bring the 16-year-old Birmingham midfielder to Old Trafford.
