Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has opened up on how he never felt safe playing at Anfield due to the incredible atmosphere created by Liverpool’s supporters.
Neville was involved in a number of battles with the Reds over the years, with there being no love lost between the two clubs.
While Reds fans are often hailed for the incredible atmosphere they create at Anfield, with a whole of hosts of players, managers and pundits often admitting how they have been left it awe of the club’s supporters.
And the former full-back, now Sky Sports pundits, has revealed all in a conversation with Reds legend Robbie Fowler on Sky’s Soccerbox programme on how he was often left in awe of the Anfield atmoshere.
“I always think Anfield is a mad place,” he said. “You are never safe there. If that crowd gets up, you are done.
“I used to hate this song (You’ll Never Walk Alone) coming on at the end of the game, you knew you was in big trouble.
“It was the worst place to lose in the world. It was the worst place to lose.”
