Ex-Paris Saint-Germain star Jerome Rothen has revealed that Real Madrid was on the verge of completing a deal for Kylian Mbappe if not the outbreak of the coronavirus.
The football governing body has suspended all footballing activities due to the pandemic and that hurt the transfer of Mbappe to Real Madrid in the opinion of Rothen.
Mbappe has two years left in his deal with the Ligue 1 Champions and he has been strongly linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu.
Rothen says that the forward was on the brink of a move to the Bernabeu.
Speaking to Radio Montecarlo, the ex-winger said: “I know from sources that Mbappe almost signed for Real Madrid. With what is happening now, it is certain that Mbappe’s arrival at Real will be postponed.
“In no case will there be an extension of Mbappe’s contract with PSG.”
Given the financial implications of coronavirus, PSG may have to reconsider their valuation of Mbappe, said to be in the region of £200m.
