Cesc Fabregas has offered his assistance to Monaco during the coronavirus outbreak by offering to defer his entire salary for up to four months.
The former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder will also take a 30 per cent pay cut.
This means that for the next four months the French top flight side will be saving £2million and will not have to pay back £500,000 to the midfielder according to the Telegraph.
In addition, the 32-year-old has also offered to top up the wages of the training ground staff at Monaco who have all suffered a 30 per cent pay cut.
The coronavirus pandemic has affected Fabregas at a personal level after he revealed his 95-year-old great-grandmother had contracted the virus.
Fabregas’s actions come off the back of high profile negotiations between clubs and their players throughout Europe over potential wage cuts and deferrals.
Southampton and West Ham United were among the first Premier League clubs to agree wage deferrals with their playing staff, while Arsenal recently became the first club in the English top flight to agree pay cuts with their stars.
Chelsea looked set to follow their London rivals into a cut, but have since opted to renegotiate with the Stamford Bridge top brass over a deferral instead.
Fabregas’s actions mirror those at Italian side Roma, whose team were pro-active in offering to cut their pay as well as topping up salaries of the Italian outfit’s non-playing staff.
