Loris Karius has terminated his contract with Besiktas ahead of a return to Liverpool.

The on-loan goalkeeper has been involved in a dispute with the Turkish side over unpaid wages with Besiktas board member Erdal Torunogullari claiming last month that Karius was asking to cancel his terms in Istanbul.

Karius took an original complaint to FIFA last year after going over four months without pay before Liverpool stepped in to provide the shot-stopper assistance with the problem.

The player’s agent, Florian Goll, told German media last month that he felt his client was being made a scapegoat by Besiktas, saying: “I strongly condemn the fact that club representatives now want to portray Loris as a bogeyman.”

And now Karius has taken to social media to confirm that he has ended his association with Besiktas, saying his patience had worn thin after lack of payment in the Turkish capital.

He wrote: “Hi everyone, today I terminated my contract with BESIKTAS.

“It’s a shame it comes to an end like this but you should know that I have tried everything to solve this situation without any problems.

“I was very patient for months telling the board over and over again. Same things happened already last year. Unfortunately they haven’t tried to solve this situational problem and even refused my suggestion to help by taking a pay cut.

“It’s important to me that you know I really enjoyed playing for this club a lot. BESIKTAS can be proud having such passionate fans behind them always giving amazing support.

“You always supported me in good and bad times and I will always remember you in the best way!

“Also I want to say thank you to all my teammates, coaching staff including all people working for the club. You welcomed me with arms wide open from day one.

“Thank you so much! Champion Besiktas”.

Reports earlier this year suggested Wolves were interested in making a move for the goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.
