Premier League supporters could be back in football stadiums by October with Boris Johnson set to lay out a six-month plan to get the United Kingdom out of lockdown.
Football in the UK has been suspended since mid-March due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
However, it’s widely reported that lockdown measures will be lifted when Johnson addresses the country on Sunday with a five-point plan.
The final point of that 50-page plan is to allow football fans back into grounds for the first time since March, whilst gyms will also be allowed to re-open.
The plan, which should come into place from Monday, will allow unlimited exercise, is still subject to change, depending on how the country’s health responds to the relaxing of lockdown rules.
This is a big boost to the Premier League, who remain in talks over a return to action in June, behind closed doors.
Negotiations are ongoing over ‘project restart’ with the current proposal to see the remaining 92 matches of the season played at eight to 10 neutral venues across the UK.
The 20 Premier League clubs will meet again on Monday following Johnson’s announcement on Sunday to discuss a further plan of action.
A formal vote is scheduled at some stage, although it remains unclear if that will be made as early as Monday.
The Premier League requires 14 clubs to vote in favour of the current proposals in order to pass any plan.
