Yusuf Keketoma Sandi, Press Secretary of Sierra Leone’s State House, on his Official Facebook page has denied report that the government of Sierra Leone appointed a Nigerian doctor to head Covid taskforce. The report has it that one Dr. Laoluwa Adejayan was appointed by the President of Sierra Leone on a monthly salary of $20,000 and that Sierra Leone President Bio had sent a message to his Nigerian counterpart to intimate him on the development, while praising the aforementioned Nigerian doctor.

The fake report was published by the Nigerian Vanguard Newspaper and made it to front page on Nigeria’s foremost online forum, Nairaland:

APPOINTMENT OF AN INTERIM NATIONAL COORDINATOR FOR THE GOVERNMENT OF SIERRA LEONE COVID-19 RESPONSE

The General Public is hereby informed that following the nationwide broadcast on 18th March 2020 and the Proclamation of a State of Emergency on 24th March 2020, it has now pleased His Excellency the President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio to appoint Brigadier (Retired) Kellie Hassan Conteh, Minister of Defence as the Interim National Coordinator for the Government of Sierra Leone COVID-19 Response.

Brigadier (Retired) Kellie Hassan Conteh will lead a team of dedicated men and women who will pursue effective measures to prevent, protect and curtail the spread of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in Sierra Leone.

The general public is assured of the continued effort by Government to prevent the incidence and spread of the virus.
