Manchester United will hope to enter the transfer window from a position of strength after resuming their Premier League season with a draw against Tottenham and a win over Sheffield United.
The race for a Champions League spot is still wide open, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team will want to be able to offer elite European football to their targets.
There are a few names who have been linked with the Red Devils for months, and others with more recent mentions, and Mirror Football has updates on players from both camps in our round-up of the latest United transfer talk from around the continent.
Jadon Sancho has been linked with a Manchester United move for some time, with the Borussia Dortmund winger understood to be available for a nine-figure fee.
However, Premier League pundit Andy Townsend, while bigging up the England winger, has warned of the huge risk such a move would be for the club.
“United in their DNA have always had exciting wide players, pacy players in those areas. Jadon Sancho is certainly all of that,” Townsend said, quoted by the Daily Star .
“It will be very interesting to see whether someone is prepared to pay the sort of money, but it’s a staggering amount. Especially when he’s not even played 100 games in his career.
“His return of 36 goals is decent from those wide areas but £130m or £140m is an incredible sum of money to pay.”
Rennes have reportedly bid €15m for Benoit Badiashile, the Monaco defender linked with an Old Trafford switch.
The French club would be able to offer Champions League football, having finished third in the curtailed Ligue 1 season, but RMC Sport suggests any suitors would need to pay more for the 19-year-old.
Badiashile was handed his competitive debut by Thierry Henry when he was just 17, and United have been mentioned in connection with the French Under-19 international since the Jose Mourinho era.
According to reports from France, Valencia and Bayer Leverkusen are also said to be interested in the defender, who played Champions League football for Monaco in the 2018/19 season.
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ £100m asking price reportedly could be enough to deter Manchester United from moving for Raul Jimenez.
The Mexico international moved to Molineux for more than £30m last summer after a successful loan spell, and has scored 23 goals in all competitions this season.
The 29-year-old would cost nine figures, according to Duncan Castles, speaking on the Transfer Window podcast (via ESPN ).
Writing in The Times, Castles added that Juventus could rival United for the Mexican’s signature as they look to add goals to their squad, with Cristiano Ronaldo the only player to hit double figures for the Bianconeri this season.
It is unclear whether United would be prepared to meet Wolves ’ demands in the current market, with reinforcements on the wing long believed to be a higher priority than a central striker.
