Liverpool will have an opportunity to parade the Premier League trophy through the streets of the city after the council gave the go-ahead.
A bus tour will not happen until it is safe to hold one, but Liverpool city council confirmed their intention to allow an event similar to the one last year, when crowds of 650,000 flooded in. A date will only be fixed once the spread of the virus is under control.
The city council will find some way of marking the achievement at the end of July, but this weekend all famous buildings in the city will be lit up red.
Liverpool will get their hands on the trophy at their final home game, with the Premier League working on ways to maximise the effect of the presentation but adhere to social distancing rules.
Mayor Joe Anderson said: ‘Not only have they won by playing brilliant football, but they have done it in a way which is a credit to the values of this city — pride, togetherness and integrity.
‘At this moment of global crisis, it is important that people with a big platform act in the right way, and LFC have been truly magnificent in dealing with this tough situation.’
Manager Jurgen Klopp said: ‘When someone has found the vaccine, when infection rates are zero, then we have the right to celebrate what we want to celebrate on that day.’
Meanwhile, there were 10 arrests following disorder on Thursday night after fans headed to Anfield to celebrate the title win.
