Diego Simeone was in charge of ending Atletico Madrid’s worst streak against a LaLiga Santander rival.

The opponents couldn’t have been worse. Los Colchoneros hadn’t won against Real Madrid in 23 games between 2000 and 2013.

But that record is now under threat from Barcelona, who have gone 20 games unbeaten against Cholo’s Atletico.

In those 20 games, there have been six draws and 14 wins for the Catalans.

Simeone’s side have gotten the better of Barcelona in other competitions – the Copa del Rey, Supercopa de Espana and the Champions League – but never in LaLiga Santander.

Even in 2014, when Atletico sealed their title at the Camp Nou, they did so with a 1-1 draw.
