Real Madrid won the La Liga title in style following the 3-1 over Villarreal at the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium on Thursday evening, thanks to a brace from Karim Benzema and a goal from Marco Asensio.
Real Madrid played a disciplined first half with Zinedine Zidane’s men playing cautiously against a Villarreal side that had plenty of the ball possession in the opening 10 minutes of the game.
Real Madrid ensured they stick with their plans with as the ensured they closed down Villarreal every possible move and the home team finally got a chance to strike after Casemiro stole the ball from Villarreal midfielder and pass to Luka Modric who found Karim Benzema at the edge of the box, the Frenchman calmly finished the move as he rolled the ball in between the legs of Villarreal goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo.
There was no other chance created in the first half as the ball was mostly played in the middle of the pack.
Real Madrid made it 2-0 after Sergio Ramos intercepted a ball in the half of the field and made a deep run into the box of the away team where he was hacked down by an opponent and the referee awarded a penalty to Real Madrid.
Benzema converted from the spot in the 76th minute to double Real Madrid’s lead.
Toni Kroos almost made it three for Los Blancos but his effort was denied by the crossbar.
Villarreal scored a goal after Real Madrid defence failed to clear a cross that was well connected by Iborra in the air to head home Villarreal opener in the 83rd minute to make it 2-1.
