Former Manchester City winger Leroy Sane appears to confirm Kai Havertz’s transfer to Chelsea is already a done deal.

Sane, who has just completed a move of his own back to his Germany homeland with Bayern Munich, and compatriot Havertz could be heading in the opposite direction.

Chelsea have been heavily linked with signing the £90million-rated Bayer Leverkusen star, who is keen on a switch to the Premier League.

A host of top clubs have also shown interest in th 21-year-old, including Liverpool and Man Utd, but it seems Chelsea may have beaten them to the punch.

Asked why players such as Havertz and Timo Werner are so in demand by English clubs at the moment, Sane praised Chelsea for signing both players.

“I think Germany has always had very good young German players, Sane said. “Many young players get their chance and develop well in the Bundesliga.

“I think that with Werner and perhaps Havertz, two Germans in one year, Chelsea did a good job.”

Werner’s transfer from Red Bull Leipzig has already been completed, and the striker will join up with his new teammates for pre-season this summer.

Havertz’s future is still up in the air, but Chelsea have been closing in on the talented forward in the last week.

Reports have suggested he has agreed terms on a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge worth £7.3million per year plus bonuses.

A fee is still yet to be determined, which could prove a sticking point, given Chelsea were previously thought to be unwilling to meet Leverkusen’s £90m valuation.

After missing out on the Champions League next season though, Leverkusen may be forced to accept a lower bid.

Chelsea still haven’t secured their place in the competition though, and must get a result at Wolves on the final day of the season on Sunday to achieve a top four spot.

Blues boss Frank Lampard said of their ambitions: “It’s massively important for the club.

“Not just for the prestige, but if you are a club on the world stage like Chelsea have been you want to compete at the highest level and attract players of the highest level.

“It generates money for the club. So you understand why there is such intense scrutiny on who finishes in the top four.”
