Romelu Lukaku is proud of entering the record books after becoming the first player ever to score in 10 consecutive Europa League/UEFA Cup games with his brace during the 5-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League semifinals match played on Monday night.
The Belgium international, who joined Inter Milan from Manchester United last summer has 33 goals in all competition this season, two more than Barcelona’s Lionel Messi but has firmly set his sights on winning the competition ahead of Friday’s final against Sevilla.
“I think everything’s going well at the minute, records are nice to be broken, but at the end of the day we’re here to win and the team we are up against are the favourites,” he told BT Sport.
Inter were invincible against Shakhtar as both Lukaka and Lautaro Martinez grabbed a brace while Danilo D’Ambrosio completed the rout.
“The team is doing well. Everybody is trying to do their best, we worked really hard in the little training camp that we had,” Lukaku said.
“It was tough, but I think now we see the results of the hard work. Physically and tactically, everybody is at 100 per cent and we can keep going, so that’s a good thing.
“I think we knew they were really good in combinations, so as long as kept the centre of defence close, we wouldn’t have any problems, because our physicality was a bit too much for them. In the second half, we showed our power and our patterns of play disrupted them a lot.”
