Lyon’s Rayan Cherki announced himself to the world in this evening’s Champions Leaguesemi-final vs Bayern Munich – by mugging off fellow teenage sensation Alphonso Davies.
The 17-year-old came on as a substitute with the French side 2-0 down and in need of a creative spark.
Cherki managed to provide that with his first touches, by trapping the ball and catching Davies’ attention.
He then turned away from the Bayern man and quickly raced down the touchline to begin an attack.
Davies is regarded as one of the world’s best full-backs and getting past him is something few have managed this campaign.
The trickery wasn’t picked up by BT Sport during the game but fans on Twitter admired the youngster’s quick feet.
Cherki’s appearance has also made him the youngest player to ever feature in a Champions League semi-final.
The Frenchman is definitely one to keep an eye on in the coming years.
Despite the burst of attacking intent, it didn’t stop Bayern storming to a 3-0 win to book their place in Sunday’s final.
Serge Gnabry opened the scoring inside the first 18 minutes with a wonderful solo effort that flew past Anthony Lopes.
Gnabry then doubled his side’s lead in the 33rd minute with a left-footed effort from close range.
Robert Lewandowski added a third late in the second half to set up a huge clash with Paris Saint-Germain.
This will be Bayern’s first appearance in a Champions League final since 2013 when they won the competition, beating German rivals Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at Wembley Stadium.
