Romelu Lukaku endured an evening to forget for Inter Milan in last night’s Europa League final – with the Belgian even refusing to take his runners-up medal.
Sevilla won the competition following a 3-2 victory, with Lukaku turning a Diego Carlos bicycle kick into his own net for the winner.
Inter players looked dejected as they collected their consolation medals at the RheinEnergieStadium.
But beIN Sports have released footage from the presentation and Lukaku is nowhere to be seen.
It’s a sad end to a personal best season for Lukaku after scoring 34 goals in his debut campaign with ‘I Nerazzurri.’
The 27-year-old started the evening in fine form, winning a penalty for Antonio Conte’s side after being hauled down by Carlos in the fifth minute.
He managed to dispatch the spot kick but Sevilla were motivated in their staple competition.
Luuk de Jong, who had scored the winner against Manchester United in the previous round, popped up to score a headed equaliser.
De Jong then scored another header in the 33rd minute to put Sevilla ahead.
That lead would only last for two minutes as Diego Godin nodded home to bring the game level.
Sevilla dominated in the second half and Carlos’ acrobatics deflected in off Lukaku to seal the game.
Inter boss Conte spoke following the game and he admitted he could leave the San Siro this summer after just one season in charge.
He explained per Daily Star: “Now we have to get back to Milan, will take two or three days off, then with cool heads will meet.
“It’s only right that we analyse the entire season, look at everything in a very calm way, and try to plan the future of Inter, whether it’s with or without me.
“I don’t know. We worked hard, it was a very tough season in many ways.
“So it’s only right to take a little rest, face the situations and make the decision that is best for Inter. There is absolutely no bitterness.
“There might be different views on things, but we’ll evaluate everything.
“It has been difficult and we’ll figure things out.
“It has been wonderful for me to be the coach of Inter, I thank the owners who allowed me to go through this great experience.
“If I can say one thing: it was worth it and I will always thank those who gave me the opportunity to have this experience.”
