Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes showcased his impressive shooting ability during a visit to former club Boavista ahead of the new campaign. 

The 25-year-old, who spent eight years with the Portuguese side at youth level, decided to surprise 17-year-old goalkeeper Rafael Flores during his visit to the Estádio do Bessa.

Fernandes took part in a fascinating shooting session with the youngster, testing his ability with a number of long-range shots. as well as a few of those trademark ‘jump’ penalty kicks.

Bruno posted on social media after the session, saying: “Thank you once again for being willing to help so that I can arrive in the best conditions for the new season.” 

Like so many other goalkeepers in recent months, Boavista’s 17-year-old shot-stopper Rafael Flores wasn’t able to save Bruno Fernandes’ trademark penalties, but the last man to save one has given every Premier League goalkeeper a vital piece of advice ahead of the new season.

The midfielder has a perfect record from the spot since joining United, converting his last in total.

He was denied, however, by Miguel Soares during Sporting Lisbon vs Loures in October 2018 – the last time he missed a penalty.

Soares explained his saving technique to the Daily Star and revealed Fernandes always looks at the keeper when taking his spot kick. 

“The save was a great moment. The secret was the small movement I made to the left. 

“Bruno looks at the keeper when he takes a penalty, so I did the same to him. I feigned to dive to the left, and went to the right.

“I wanted to make Bruno take his decision as late as possible. I didn’t want to make his life easier.

“We took Sporting all the way to extra time, and still gave them a scare before they won 2-1.”
