Lionel Messi was supposedly at odds with the Barcelona board even before their humiliating loss to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final according to Jerome Boateng.

Even though the majority of the public believe that Messi made his decision to leave Barcelona after being a part of Barcelona’s 8-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final, he was already ‘at war’ with the Barcelona board before it.

According to Jerome Boateng of Bayern, he could tell that Messi was already at odds with the board.

“You noticed in advance that there was drama between Messi and Barcelona,” Boateng told Bild.

Bayern humiliated the Spanish side in the quarter-final finishing the game 8-2 with Messi not having any presence on the pitch with the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Alphonso Davies outclassing the Argentine.

The German defender also responded about the recent speculation of Messi teaming up with Manchester City and their old manager Pep Guardiola.

Boateng added: “Pep and Messi have celebrated great successes together, which is why both sides know that their philosophies would fit together.”

Boateng played under Guardiola when he was manager at Bayern Munich.
