Manchester City defeated Wolves 3-1 at the Molineux Stadium on Monday as they start the new Premier League in a grand style as they send a statement to their rivals.
Manchester City scored two first-half goals with Kevin de Bruyne scoring from a penalty spot and Phil Folden’s well-struck goal saw the Premier League runner-up take the lead in the first half.
Wolves kept the pressure on and their effort was rewarded just before the 80th minute when Daniel Podence beat De Bruyne and played a superb cross into the area that Raul Jimenez nodded into the net to make it 2-1.
The hosts pushed hard for an equaliser, but none came and Gabriel Jesus added a third for Man City in second-half stoppage time as they picked up all three points to start the 2020-21 campaign.
Next up for Manchester City is a Carabao Cup match against Bournemouth on Sept. 24, while Wolves play next away to West Ham in the Premier League on Sept. 27.
