Diogo Jota has opened up on what he was told by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp before he scored what was his first goal for the Reds.
In what was his Anfield and Premier League debut, the former Wolves man was brought on as an 80th-minute replacement for Sadio Mane who scored Liverpool’s first goal but was on a yellow card
“Wow,” Jota told Sky Sports after the game. “It’s an amazing feeling, of course.
“I just wish it could be with the full stadium, that would be even more special, but I’m very pleased to help the team and the result was the most important, of course.
“The first one is always the hardest one. I just need to keep on going, that’s the most important thing. Now, I have one and I want more.”
Jota could have even had a hat-trick on another day having hit the side-netting from close range before a mix up with Mo Salah in the Arsenal box.
“It’s football, sometimes we score, sometimes we miss,” he said. “We just have to keep on going, believe always that we’re gonna score and fortunately I did.”
On what Klopp told him before his Premier League debut for Liverpool, he said: “Just to keep pressing like we had been doing, and be happy with the ball, do what we are used to doing,” said Jota.
“That’s what I tried to do, play good football and press without the ball.”
Jota’s goal was the icing on the cake for Liverpool in their 3-1 win over Arsenal and he is the 33rd different player to have scored for the Reds since Klopp took over the club.
Also, Liverpool have now scored 400 Premier League goals since Klopp became manager in October 2015.
