Liverpool Boss Klopp Gives Positive Update On Goalkeeper Alisson

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has given a “very positive” update on Alisson, who is continuing to recover from an injury sustained before the international break.

No. 1 Alisson started the first three Premier League games of the season, starring in wins over Leeds, Chelsea and Arsenal and making a penalty save in the 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

But he was ruled out of the trip to Aston Villa with a shoulder injury and in his absence the Reds were thrashed 7-2 on a humbling evening.

Back-up goalkeeper Adrian drew criticism for his shaky display and there have been calls for Liverpool to invest in a new shot-stopper before the domestic transfer deadline on Friday evening.

Watford veteran Ben Foster and Stoke City’s Jack Butland have been linked with the switch to Anfield, but any move before the 5pm cut-off appears highly unlikely.

But having originally said Alisson may be out for up to six weeks, Klopp provided an encouraging update on the Brazil star ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Everton on Saturday.

The Reds boss said: “Very positive with Ali. He’s made big steps, no timeframe, but he looks really good.”

Liverpool are set to travel to Goodison Park with Adrian handed the gloves once more, while Everton have an under-fire ‘keeper of their own in Jordan Pickford.

The Toffees moved on Deadline Day to sign competition for the England No. 1, landing Sweden international Robin Olsen on loan from Roma.

Meanwhile, Klopp also provided an update on Naby Keita, ruling the midfielder out of the Merseyside derby with a fitness issue.

Keita reportedly contracted coronavirus while on international duty with Guinea but a second test returned a negative result.

The 25-year-old has started each of Liverpool’s league games this season, while in his absence Thiago Alcantara may start his first match for the Reds.
