Guendouzi Suggests Arsenal Career Is Over After Latest Comments

Matteo Guendouzi has hinted his Arsenal career may already be over after his latest comments evaluating his time at the club.

The 21-year-old’s stay in north London came to an abrupt yet temporary earlier this month when he completed a season-long loan move to Hertha Berlin.

Despite being regarded as a promising talent for the future, a row with boss Mikel Arteta at Arsenal’s Dubai training camp back in February seemed to be the catalyst behind Guendouzi’s exit.

The midfielder then looked to blow the only chance of salvaging his Gunners career in the defeat with Brighton in June – the last time he appeared for the club.

Guendouzi was exiled from first-team duties over the remainder of the season and it looks as though he has no plans on returning.

Looking back on the period, Guendouzi told Kicker : “I played over 80 games there and had a good, intense time there.

“I learned a lot there in terms of sport and grew up there. It was two good years for me.

“I also had a very good relationship with Mesut Özil, and Bernd Leno, both of them told me a lot of good things about the Bundesliga.”

Guendouzi still has two years remaining on his Arsenal contract, and as it stands will head back to the club next summer.

It’s clear the youngster does not figure in Arteta’s plans for the future though, after Arsenal failed with attempts to offload Guendouzi permanently during the transfer window.

That allowed Hertha to snap him up on loan although Guendouzi revealed he had “other options” on the table.

He is yet to make a single appearance for the German club due to initial fitness problems, followed by him contracting coronavirus, but insists he is keen to use the loan spell wisely.

“The Bundesliga is something new for me,” he added. “I want to win as many games as possible, and, above all, develop myself further.”
