Former Arsenal defender Stephan Lichtsteiner has started training as a watch maker after his retirement from professional football.
The 37-year-old former Switzerland international spent just one season at Arsenal after leaving Juventus on a free transfer in 2018.
During his time at the Gunners he played 14 games in Unai Emery’s first season in charge at the club after Arsene Wenger’s exit in the summer.
He moved on to Augsburg before retiring from professional football, and has now started an internship with manufacturer Maurice de Mauriac in Zurich.
“I want to do something productive,” Lichtsteiner told Reuters.
“If you are a banker … you can do that for all your life, but if you are a footballer once you hit your mid 30s, you have to find something else to do.”
The watch manufacturing owners Leonard and Massimo Dreifuss said they are excited to train Lichtsteiner.
“We had lots of applications but Stephan was the most enthusiastic,” art director Leonard Dreifuss told Reuters
“We are aiming for a long-term partnership and will move step by step.”
