A late Marcos Alonso goal sealed a 2-1 comeback win for Chelsea at Manchester City and delayed Pep Guardiola’s men title celebrations.
City would have been confirmed as champions with a win, but despite taking the lead through Raheem Sterling they were pegged back in the second half thanks to goals from Hakim Ziyech and Alonso.
Sergio Aguero had the chance to double City’s lead late in the first half but missed a penalty in humiliating fashion after his panenka attempt was stopped by Edourd Mendy.
City made nine changes from their semi-final lineup, with Ederson and Ruben Dias keeping their places while Chelsea, on the other hand, kept five of their starting lineup from Wednesday’s action.
City opened scoring on 44 minutes through Sterling who raced intp the box and slammed the ball past Mendy after Sergio Aguero failed to properly control Gabriel Jesus cross.
In the 63rd minute Chelsea equalised thanks to Ziyech who fired a powerful shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
With the game in stoppage time, Chelsea got the winner as Alonso diverted a cross to complete the comeback.
The win took Chelsea up to third position on 64 points while City remain top on 80 points with three games left to play for both teams.
