At the beginning of this season, Lukasz Piszczek announced that he would be leaving Borussia Dortmund after 11 years at the club to go and play with Goczalkowice. Goczalkowice is the team where he started playing football. They are currently in the Polish fourth division and several of his childhood companions still play there.
When asked why he will be going to play at such a level he said: “I want to go play with my friends to close my career.”. He will also direct the club’s school there, which bears his name.

Yesterday in one of his last matches for Dortmund, they managed to beat Leipzig and be crowned DFB Pokal champions for the fifth time in their history. After the game his teammates chanted his name, lift him up to give him a good send off but he couldn’t stop crying. In his post match interview he then said: “I’ll keep this memory close to my heart forever. I will miss playing for this team but it’s time to go home.”
