UEFA Nations League: Why Italy Lost To Spain – Chiellini

Veteran defender Giorgio Chiellini has given reasons why Italy lost to Spain in the semifinals of the Nations League on Wednesday in Milan.

Manchester City’s Ferran Torres netted both of Spain’s goals as they ran out 2-1 victors to 10-man Italy.

Italy were 1-0 down when captain Leonardo Bonucci was sent off for two bookings in the first-half, the second for an elbow on Sergio Busquets.

Lorenzo Pellegrini scored a late consolation for the Azzurri.

The defeat ended Italy’s record 37-match unbeaten run.

And reacting to the defeat Chiellini told RAI Sport, according to football-italia.net:“We weren’t as patient this time, compared to July, we were too frantic and had we not been so eager to prove a point by trying to dominate Spain, then we would’ve probably kept it in the balance for longer.”

The Juventus star added: “It’s a pity the defeat came in Milan, but there is proud for this extraordinary run of results.”
