According to the minister, based on the existing production rate, it will take the country about 120 years to have the number of doctors needed.

The Nigerian Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, has stated that it would take the country about 120 years to have the desired number of medical doctors needed in the health sector.
The Minister spoke at the weekend during the maiden matriculation of the Federal University of Health Sciences (FUHSO) held at its temporary site, Otada in Otukpo Benue State.
Adamu also noted that the university would bridge the huge gap in Nigeria’s need for medical doctors across the country.
Represented by Arc. Sunny Echono, the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, Adamu further said, “based on the existing production rate, it will take Nigeria about 120 years to have the number of doctors she needs, assuming all our doctors remain in the country.”
According to him, the university “will act as a catalyst, through training, research and innovation for the effective utilisation, exploitation, and conservation of Nigeria’s natural, economic and human resources.”
