Ukraine-based Ghanaian footballer, Najeed Yakubu says he is currently locked in doors with his food running out of stock following the invasion by Russia.
Russia reportedly sent air missile strikes attacking the city of Kharkiv leaving many Ukrainians and people living in the country in a state of fear.
Narrating his ordeal to Citi Sports, Yakubu opened up on the current situation and reveals he leaves just an hour away from where the attack is happening.
“Yesterday when I went to training, everything was fine. This morning, I woke up to the news [of the attack]. They sent an emergency message that there wouldn’t be training and that we should stay at home and be safe. I called my friends in the city that was attacked and they said this is not a movie, it’s serious,” said the former Ghana U17 defender.
Najeeb Yakubu plays for Ukrainian topflight side FC Vorskla Poltava, and he is a key member of the team but attacks this morning meant training was cancelled.
According to Najeeb, he has no idea what is going to happen the coming days as he fears he will run out of food stock.
“[What I have is enough for] maybe two, three days I think. If they restock I can go get some more foodstuffs but I really don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow or the day after,” added the defender.
