Nigeria’s Reputation Declining Globally, Says Anyaoku

Former Secretary General of Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku on Tuesday said Nigeria reputation is declining globally.
Anyaoku, who spoke at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, during the Maiden Symposium of Emeka Anyaoku Institute for International Studies and Diplomacy, said a lot of work needs to be done to raise Nigeria’s profile in the comity of nations and to win back the lost nation’s respect.
“Today, Nigerian passport is treated with contempt in many parts of the world. We have a lot of work to do for the future in terms of raising Nigeria’s profile in the comity of nations and winning respect for Nigerians,” he said.
Anyaoku, who also marked his 89th birthday, at the event, said Nigeria’s standing and diplomacy in the world can be greatly influenced by the country’s domestic situation.
“As most populous African country, Nigeria has a special responsibility for obliterating the abiding legacy of the slave trade by winning respect and genuine acceptance of the nation of human equality among the non-black races across the world,” he said.
