The General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Mohammed Sanusi, has promised that the victorious Flying Eagles at WAFU Zone B Championship will play “quality” friendly matches to get ready for the 2023 U-20 AFCON.
Against expectations, the Nigerian team won the competition staged in Niamey, Niger Republic, earlier this month by defeating the Young Squirrels of Benin Republic 3-1 in the final.
The Ladan Bosso-led boys were impressive throughout the competition, winning three of their four games and drawing one. The team picked one of the two tickets to the AFCON championship taking place in Egypt next year.
Sanusi stated that the NFF will provide the team with all the necessary support, including keeping the squad together.
“The work is for us to do what we are supposed to do by giving all the necessary encouragement, to keep them together, arrange quality friendly matches for them, both at home and abroad and monitor their performance at their clubs. That is the best way to go,” Sanusi stated.
