Senate President, Lawan Switches Off Okorocha’s Mic At Ministerial Screening

There was a clash between Senate President, Ahmad Lawan and Senator Rochas Okorocha (APC, Imo West) on Wednesday at the screening of ministerial nominees.
For a moment, Lawan switched off the microphone attached to Okorocha when the latter tried to take on one of the nominees, Goodluck Opiah, from Imo State.
Okorocha, a former governor of Imo, subsequently yelled at Lawan, demanding to know why Lawan gave another lawmaker, Francis Ezenwa, a chance to speak when he was denied.
Lawan cautioned Okorocha against breaching the agreement reached in the chamber’s closed-door session.
Opiah was former Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly and member representing Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
He is an ally of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma who has clashed with Okorocha severally despite being members of same political party.
After his screening, Opiah told journalists that there was no ‘bad blood’ between him and Okorocha. He added that the ex-governor meant well.
The Senate confirmed all ministerial nominees on Wednesday. They are Opiah, Ikoh Ikechukwu (Abia) Umana Umana (Akwa Ibom), Ekumankama Nkama (Ebonyi), Umar El-Yakub (Kano), Ademola Adegoroye (Ondo) and Odum Udi (Rivers).
